A new Glass Development Kit was released today to Glass developers and includes some new tricks that enable the wearable device to perform certain new functions without having to contact Google's servers.  One new app built using such features demonstrated was a new 'translation app' called 'Word Lens Glass' which one can easily imagine being of great use when in a foreign country and looking at for instance, a sign in a different language.  The app accesses a local dictionary of about 10,000 common words that are stored in a selected local language chosen by the Glass user for easy retrieval and translation to the without having to contact Google's cloud.

As can be seen above, one simply activates it by giving the command 'ok glass, translate this' and then a translated version of text is shown in similar size, color and shape as the original but now in the user's native tongue (in this case english).  Pretty awesome if we do say so ourselves.  We can imagine this being incredibly useful with menus in a foreign restaurant to know exactly what you're ordering.

Other new apps demonstrated were Allthecooks ( ahands-free recipe app), Strava (an app that allows realtime analytics for runners and cyclists), Spellista by GLU (a Glass game) and GolfSight by SkyDroid (A helpful golf tool app).
