Received my invite - have some questions
« on: January 04, 2014, 01:07:30 AM »
I received my Google Glass invite today and have only a few days to respond. I have gotten past the cost of the device and will rationalize the spend as the cost of me being a gadget addict. I did have a few questions though:

  • Do some establishments actively ban Google Glass. Is the numbers of these establishments growing?
  • Will an iPhone with a personal hotspot plan give me the same functionality as an Android device when paired with the Glass
  • I have read that people who already wear powered eyeglasses struggle with Google Glass. Is this true? I wear eyeglasses - they're not bifocals or anything, just regular, low-powered glasses. What should I expect?
  • How easy is it to take off and reattach the Google Glass to my eye glasses, considering that I am going to have to do this several times in a day (since people and generally paranoid about them)

There are a few establishments that have banned Glass. One bar where I live has doesn't allow Glass on the premises... and here's the kicker, its a video game bar called Press Play lol. Crazy. But I spoke with the manager and asked him why. His response was because you can't easily tell if you are recording or not. Sorta true, although its easy to spot someone recording with Glass, its not as obvious as someone holding up a camera.  But, that falls short of holding any water because we all know there are ways yo record people with your phone without anyone noticing. Not to mention $30 spy cams you can buy online... Or even Samsung's Galaxy Gear watch that has a camera on the wristband. Its just a lost cause if you ask me.

I have heard sending and receiving SMS does not work with iOS and Glass.

Can't comment on this, I have no idea.

There is a tiny screw that needs to be unscrewed in order to detach Glass hardware from the frame. I'm assuming same would need to be done onto the new RX frame. And its probably a little more permanent than temporary. I see most users just wear Glass over there prescription lenses.
