Face Recognition
« on: March 16, 2013, 02:04:42 AM »
Hello,

Quick question to the Glass Project team:

Is it possible to a add Face Recognition to the Glass?

If yes, this is fantastic as it will help a lot of people - like me - who easily forget names. Also useful for teachers / doctors, etc or for anyone who meet with people.

With this capability - it will eliminate those embarrassing moments where you're trying to remember someone's name.

What's you're thought?

Welcome edmc2!  While there are no members of the Project Glass team on this forum (this is an independent forum with no connection to Google), I agree with you that face recognition would be a great addition to 'Glass'.  I actually believe I read recently that Google acquired a company that specializes in visual objective identification and it is assumed this is to incorporate some of this technology into 'Glass'.  I would not be surprised if face recognition is something that Google is already playing with for a future version of 'Glass'.

It would be so useful to go to a networking event for instance and instead of having to remember everyone's face and the business card they give you...if 'Glass' could automatically identify everyone for you...and then you could play the event back later to remember or 'Glass' could compile a list of contacts of people you've met while at the event.  That would be amazing and really change how we interact and connect with people.

Thanks Babyface for the reply. Is there any way to find out from Google if the Face Recognition capability is being considered?

In my opinion - it will catapult this product to another level as it will help people with memory loss. Like in churches where you meet a lot of friends and can't remember their names.

There's no way I know other than going over to google's official forums and asking, although I highly doubt you'll get an answer.  It's all top secret of course.  I think it's fairly safe to say though that anything and everything is being considered. i'm sure they have hundreds if not thousands of people working on the 'Glass' project and they've brainstormed every possible use and then some.  Facial and people recognition seems pretty obvious to me as a use for Google Glass so i'd bet anything that they have not only thought about it...but are actually working on it.  It's a no-brainer.

Thanks,

Hopefully they're considering it. I'd like to get one for granma and granpa. This will open up their their world a lot more brighter and probably get them back conversing with their friends again. Due to poor memory it's hard for them to converse with their friends.

Google Search, select Image, select camera icon, upload image
This used to work well, but Google was forced to terminate the service because of abuse.

People were stalking other people.

Perhaps this service can be opened back up again if there are some sort of ethical limitations created.

If everyone were ethical, there would be no reason to hide anything from anyone.
